Hello all. I am starting this blog for two reasons. First, my wife and I have just come off of a rather painful and frustrating adoption failure that was not something that I want to have to re-live. Second, I am hoping that through this blog I will be able to help others learn the process of adopting through the foster care system and maybe through your help, I will learn some more stuff and hopefully avoid any more painful experiences.
I will start with giving you some background on me. My wife and I have been on the adoption scene for going on seven years now. We have adopted two children, a boy and a girl. Our daughter was the first. She was a private adoption that we had from birth. Second, was our son five years later, and he was through the foster care system. Now you might ask why the delay and you would be right in asking. From an outside observer, there might have appeared to have been a break, but for my wife and I there was no break. Since adopting our daughter we have had three or four failed adoptions through what would have been a private adoption system. All of those were at various stages and they all were painful to experience.
After those experiences my wife and I decided that we wanted to be a little more proactive and wanted a little bit more control over the process, so we decided to go look at foster care adoptions as an alternative. This was not only one of the best decisions that we had made, but also one of the most difficult processes that we have had to work through. Not only care foster care and adoption rules and regulations change from state to state, they can be different from county to county with each state. We lucked out if our next adoption that he was from our own state; a state that at that time had minimal issues. We would later find out that when we were pushing the process along, they had too many issues to overcome, but that will be for another post.
So it is my hope that through the next few posts I will be able to impart some of my experiences to help you throughout the foster adoption process.
